Weekend outlook: Cheetah Hunt, Star Wars Weekend, ‘Sea Hunt,’ Curious George

Let’s go ahead and take a long look at the upcoming long weekend. We aren’t short on options at Central Florida theme parks and attractions to distract from the Casey Anthony trial.
+ Thursday night is Velvet Sessions at Universal’s Hard Rock Hotel. The musical guest is Live’s Ed Kowalczyk. The cocktail party/lobby concert begins at 6:30. For tickets and details, go to www.velvetsessions.com.
+ Friday marks opening day for Cheetah Hunt, the latest roller coaster at Busch Gardens in Tampa. It’s Busch Garden’s longest coaster (4,429 feet) and among its tricks are three launch spot, propelled by repelling magnets, and a loop around the park’s Skyride. (A media preview is Thursday, so check back here Thursday afternoon for a review and video.) Real-live animals will be seen in a cheetah habitat called Cheetah Run.

+ Star Wars Weekends activities continue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Special guests for the weekend include Anthony Daniels (who played C-3PO), Bruce Spence (Tion Medon) and Dee Bradly Baker, who is the voice of Captain Rex in the animated “Clone Wars” television show. Also at Hollywood Studios, guests can board the newly reopened (and now 3-D) Star Tours ride.

+ Ripley’s has lined up a couple of free performances by sideshow acts at its International Drive museum on Saturday. Check out “Lucky the Rainproof Man” (eats molten lead; drills into face, etc.) and Jim Stilianos (juggles fire; walks on glass), who were the winner and runner-up, respectively in Ripley’s Believe It or Not Unbelievable Talent Contest in New York City. Show times are at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
+ Silver Springs is saluting the old TV show “Sea Hunt,” which filmed 100 episodes at the Marion County attraction back in the day. Activities include re-enactment of underwater battles, which can be viewed from the glass-bottom boats. For more details, go to www.silversprings.com.
+ It’s last call for the “Curious George: Let’s Get Curious,” which ends Sunday at the Orlando Science Center and for “The Working White House,” which wraps up at the Orange County Regional History Center on Monday.
+ UPDATE: “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery will visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios (home of the American Idol Experience) on Monday, and the public can see it happen. Click here to read more about American Idol winner Scotty McCreery going to Disney World.
